Nana Ama McBrown is a Ghanaian actress and music writer. She was born in Kumasi, Ghana on 17th August, 1974. Nana Ama’s father Kwabena Nkrumah and mother Cecilia Agyenim Boateng, divorced when she was young. With her father gone, her mother was unable to take care of her and her six siblings which led to them being adopted by her aunt, Madam Betty Obiri and Kofi McBrown.

Nana Ama attended Peters International School before moving on to Melesota International and then Central International. After completing her education in Kwadaso L.A Junior Secondary School, she went on to Prince of Peace Secondary School. Later, she attended the College of Business with the intention of one day becoming a secretary.

She essentially stumbled into acting after answering an auction call on the radio by Miracle Films, but was hired to do costuming instead. However, while on set, Nana Ama was able to snag the lead role after the director felt that she was better suited for the role. She found mainstream success following her rousing performance in the Twi-Language movie Nsem Pii – a movie often cited as the movie that ushered Twi-language Ghanaian movies into the mainstream.
